Our Story

EQUITAS IS A FAMILY OWNED SERVICE WHICH OFFERS INDIVIDUALLY FOCUSED CARE AND SUPPORT.

PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN RESIDENTS, THEIR FAMILIES AND STAFF UNDERPIN THE WAY IN WHICH SERVICES ARE PROVIDED.

THE OWNER, VICKI CORNER, HAS ALWAYS MEASURED THE QUALITY OF OUR SERVICE AS BEING IF IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HER SON IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ANYONE ELSE.

Vicki Corner established Equitas in 2008 in response to an identified gap in Canterbury’s residential care market for young disabled people. Vicki has extensive professional experience in the management of long-term care and rehabilitation facilities, and recognised the shortfall in residential care facility choice for young disabled people.  As a mother of a disabled young man with life-long complex care needs, Vicki had first-hand experience in the difficulties in sourcing appropriate care.

Equitas Care Limited was incorporated in 2008 and opened its first residential home in the same year. This home can accommodate four people and was purpose-built to meet the needs of physically disabled people.

The second residential home was opened in 2009.  This home was renovated to accommodate up to five people and includes an attached administration area comprising two offices and a meeting room.

A third home was opened in 2014 but due to the demand at a time the home was closed and re-opened again in September 2019.
