About Equitas

Equitas, based in the north west area of Christchurch, provides homes for people who have suffered a brain injury where rehabilitation, independence and personal goal setting provides the basis for all service delivery.

Where residents cannot progress to independent living, Equitas provides a person centered supportive home for people that facilitates aspects of independent living and meets their social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs.

Residents family/whanau and friends are welcome at Equitas and we encourage them to fully participate in all aspects of residents’ lives.

EQUITAS VISION

Enabling people to thrive and have a unique lifestyle of their choice

OBJECTIVES

Equitas will provide a home for people with Traumatic Brain Injury to live with other compatible flat mates. We ensure a supportive home environment is maintained within the community, and we are committed to encouraging individuals to reach their potential with maximum independence in all areas of their lives.

QUALITY

Equitas is a professional organisation which is focused on delivering a high standard of service. As part of an active Quality Improvement Programme, Rehabilitation Support Workers are provided with on-going training by our two Registered nurses, General manager, and External educators. Staff are also required to complete Career Force NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (level 2) support work and the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Rehabilitation Support) Brain Injury (level 4).

Qualified health professionals (such as Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Therapists and Psychologists) contribute to the care and rehabilitation programmes for Equitas residents.

Equitas is certified to provide Residential Disability Services under section 26 of the Health & Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001. Equitas was assessed by third party auditors against the Health & Disability Sector Standards (mandated by the Ministry of Health) in August 2020 and received a commendable result with three years Certification.

PERFORMANCE

Equitas measures its progress through a variety of indicators, and not merely financial or clinical. One of our ultimate measures of success is the overall satisfaction of each resident, and the level of independence and skill development they are achieving.

We believe that clinical indicators are a strong measure of our day-to-day clinical performance. We therefore closely monitor (i) infections, (ii) behavioural emergencies, (iii) incidents/accidents and (iv) medication errors. Other measures include resident & family/whānau satisfaction (annual survey), complaints, occupancy, staff turnover, sickness, financial performance and feedback from staff and clinical service providers.

Funding

Most residents of Equitas have been assessed and accepted as requiring rehabilitation and/or residential support services by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

From time to time, individual residents are accepted for temporary ACC funded spinal injury and respite care, as well as individual Ministry of Health (MoH) support contracts.
