John's train trip

Last month John took a round trip to Picton on the train, here is what his support person had to say about John’s experience:

As soon as I told John I had booked the tickets for the train trip he was excited and quickly put it in his diary!

On the day of the trip John was ready by 6:30am. As soon as we hopped on the train, he said it's quite flash and looks good. John sat in the window seat, so that he could enjoy the view.

There were other people sitting in front of us. John started chatting with them, asking if they were also going to Picton, it was a good conversation.

On the way, he was looking out the window and enjoying the view (scenery, sheep, cows, landscapes ). I talked with him about the views and how he was feeling about the trip.

John listened to a commentary through his headphones, which explained the history of places we were passing, which was quite good for John because he is always interested in history.

I took John to the viewing deck, he really enjoyed that. He was mentioning time to time, “this is really good, we should go more often”.

The train stopped for a break in Kaikōura, and John got down from the train to stretch his legs and have a short walk around.

John enjoyed hot tea and food while looking at the scenery back on the train.

In picton, we only had a short time before we had to be back on the trip for the return journey. John had something to eat and then went back to the train.

John was very thankful to his support person for organising the trip. This journey has encouraged him to plan for another trip, and he plans to go to Queenstown next time.
